Sonia Bompastor says that her full focus is on her Chelsea side ahead of this afternoon’s London derby at Arsenal.

The Blues travel to the Emirates Stadium having won both of their Barclays Women’s Super League matches so far this season. Opponents Arsenal have been inconsistent and the pressure is on with The Gunners having already dropped four points.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Chelsea boss Bompastor said that she is not focusing on the situation at Arsenal, she is only interested in preparing her team for the clash.

“I am focused on my team,” Bompastor said. “We prepare for every game in such a professional way and for me, Arsenal is no different to the teams that we have been facing.

“We focus on ourselves, we know what we need to do. We need to make sure we get a result and a great performance and that’s it.”

Going on to speak briefly about Arsenal, Bompastor said that she has analysed their performances and that she is expecting a tough game regardless of The Gunners’ form.

She said “I have watched most of their games with my staff. They obviously have a really good squad, a talented squad and we are expecting to have a tough game, especially at the Emirates Stadium.

“We are prepared for that and we feel good. We feel like it’s time to go.”

London derby bragging rights are on the line at the Emirates this afternoon but Bompastor hasn’t made any reference to that point and she just wants her players to enjoy the occasion.

She said “The players are really focused on themselves and on the team. I don’t think I need to mention the rivalry to my players because I just want them to keep focusing on our job.

“Being a manager, I know what it means to play a derby from my experiences [in France]. They weren’t the same but they were still derbies and I know how they felt.

“I am a competitive person and so are my players but we just want to play these games. We want to play in-front of fans, in a nice stadium and against a very tough team. We want to be in a position to play the game and enjoy it.”

Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Arsenal kicks-off at 1.45pm this afternoon.
