Aggie Beever-Jones says she “can’t quite believe it” after netting a hat-trick to help England thrash Portugal 6-0 at Wembley.
The Lionesses secured a comfortable Nations League win thanks also to goals from Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead and Chloe Kelly.
But it was Beever-Jones who stole the show with her hat-trick and the Chelsea striker says it is a great feeling to have her patience rewarded.
“Incredible, I can’t quite believe it,” she told BBC 5 live after the game.
“I haven’t played at Wembley for England since my first time and I didn’t think it could get much better than that.
“In football it’s never just a straight line. I’ve had to be patient in this set-up and that just shows the quality that the team has.
“I got the opportunity tonight and I am grateful to everyone who helped me get into this place. My main goal was to keep my feet on the ground and keep working.
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity. I couldn’t have hoped for a better day.”
England will get their European Championship campaign underway at the start of July and Beever-Jones says she is pleased to be hitting form at the right time.
“Whenever I’m playing for England I just hope I’m giving the right people the right headaches,” she said.
“I’m focusing on the current and the now and doing the best I can when I am given opportunities.
“I wouldn’t want anyone else for competition. Alessia [Russo] is an incredible player, I learn so much off her and the whole frontline. I’m a versatile players and if I am in the squad this summer hopefully I can contribute where I can.”
Her fellow England forward Chloe Kelly was full of praise for Beever-Jones, saying: “She was cool in front of goal tonight.
“She is an unbelievable girl, so much quality and so much personality. It’s great to see her firing in an England shirt.”
