I thought I would have a look at the Premier League sack race.

How things are looking for the 2024/25 running of this ‘race’…

Last season, it was actually Paul Heckingbottom that ‘won’ the 2023/24 Premier League sack race, sacked and replaced by Chris Wilder on 5 December 2023.

By this date (24 October) back in 2022 though, it was a very different story.

Premier League managers who had been sacked/left their jobs once the 2022/23 season had kicked off:

Scott Parker was sacked by Bournemouth on 30 August 2022.

Then on 7 September 2022 the same for Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

Then Brighton losing Graham Potter on 8 September 2022 when their manager departed to the Stamford Bridge club.

Bruno Lage became the fourth on 2 October 2022 when Wolves gave him the push.

On 20 October 2022, it was the turn of Aston Villa and Steven Gerrard.

Indeed, there went on to be many more departures that 2022/23 season, including Chelsea sacking Graham Potter only months after starting at Stamford Bridge. Meaning that during the same season, the Chelsea owners paid out huge compensation to recruit Potter and his staff from Brighton, then paid out similarly huge compensation to sack them!

How the Premier League table currently looks on 24 October 2024:
