Enzo Maresca has insisted he’s “very happy” with the performances of Malo Gusto this season despite the Frenchman’s struggles.
Gusto joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023 from French side Lyon in a deal worth an initial £26.3m and made an instant impact in his debut season.
With Reece James missing a large part of the season Gusto featured in 27 Premier League games , registering six assists as the Blues secured a top six finish and a return to European football.
Chelsea are struggling at the moment and are currently on a run of two wins in their last nine league games, with the players simply not performing to the standard they are capable of.
The Blues have dropped to sixth in the league and face a fierce battle with the likes of Manchester City, Bournemouth and Newcastle to qualify for the Champions League, with Gusto insisting the target is the top four.
The drop off in form from the whole team has been alarming and Gusto was particularly damning with his comments after the defeat to Brighton last week.

Gusto hasn’t been able to hit the heights of last season so far and fans have been critical of his performances, with the right back registering just one assist in 21 league appearances, whilst he’s not started back to back league games since December.
However, the France under-21 international has received a vote of confidence from Maresca who insisted he’s very happy with his performances.
“I’m very happy with Malo, to be honest, I think he is doing well with us,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“In this moment, to judge players, it is probably as a consequence of the results also.

“Malo helped us a lot when we were in a good run. I think at some point of the season, we won seven, eight or nine games in a row and he was a fantastic part of that.
“In this moment, we can probably only judge Malo as a consequence of the results but Malo is a main player, an important player and he is doing well.”
