Real Madrid will play perhaps their most important match of the season until now on Wednesday when they lock horns with Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Having suffered a shock 3-0 loss to the Gunners in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, the current title-holders have a mountain to climb in the reverse fixture.
Following their 1-0 win over Alaves this past weekend in La Liga Real Madrid returned to training on Monday at Valdebebas as preparations began for Wednesday’s comeback attempt against Arsenal.
However, as MARCA confirms, the Spanish and European champions will be without two players, Ferland Mendy and Andriy Lunin, for the second leg.
Indeed, the Ukrainian goalkeeper and the French left-back have been ruled out of the Arsenal encounter due to injury and will not be available to support the team in overturning the 3-0 first-leg deficit.

Mendy has been out since the UCL Round of 16 second leg vs. Atletico Madrid last month. Despite there being hopes that he might be back in time to face Arsenal (first leg), things have not gone as per plans for the seasoned campaigner, who is still not back in training.
As for Lunin, the Ukrainian ace suffered an injury during the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Real Sociedad earlier this month and has since missed three matches.
The pair has not recovered yet and as such are out of Wednesday’s game against Arsenal.
Aside from these absences, there were no new developments at Real Madrid’s training complex.
Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal remain long-term absentees while Eduardo Camavinga will miss the Arsenal clash through suspension.
