Reigning Serie A champions Inter are reportedly considering offloading underperforming striker Mehdi Taremi in the summer. According to Calciomercato, club owners Oaktree Capital are open to letting the 32-year-old leave only a year after arriving from Porto.
After vying for Taremi’s signature for over a year, Inter finally signed the Iran international on a free transfer last summer. However, the move hasn’t panned out as expected, with the experienced center-forward flopping in Serie A this season.
Except for a penalty in a 4-0 thrashing of Lecce last month, Taremi has failed to score in his 17 remaining league appearances for Inter. As such, Simone Inzaghi’s men have grown tired of his lackluster form and could let him depart in the summer.
Per the same report, Oaktree wouldn’t have sanctioned Taremi’s arrival in the first place had they taken control of Inter earlier. The American investment fund took over at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. However, the deal with the ex-Rio Ave star was already in the bag.
Despite signing Taremi without spending a dime, Inter can’t expect a hefty profit from his sale. Indeed, he’s already in the autumn of his career, while his substandard showings in the Nerazzurri shirt can’t help his market value grow.
Meanwhile, Inter will cut ties with Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa in June. Both players’ contracts run out at the end of the season, with the club reluctant to offer them fresh terms. However, they’ll go to great lengths to keep hold of Marcus Thuram.
