Inter Keeping Tabs on Multiple Touted Serie A Defenders

Inter intend to find their next defender in Serie A and have more than a few names on their radar. They have already been linked to Jaka Bijol and Sam Beukema, who star for Udinese and Bologna respectively.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are also eyeing Isak Hien and Mario Gila. It won’t be easy to come to terms with Atalanta and Lazio given their essential roles. The Scudetto holders have planned a significant investment at the position thanks to the increased Champions League prize money. They have already pocketed €98.5M, €30M more than last season and only €3M less compared to when they reached the final. Winning the competition would fetch €150M.

Inter will likely part ways with at least one between Stefan De Vrij and Francesco Acerbi. The Dutchman has been the favorite to stay for most of the season. He’s younger and has been less injury-prone. However, the Italian veteran has roared back after getting healthy, while his teammate has been banged up as of late.

The Nerazzurri could double-dip depending on how Tiago Palacios fares at Monza. His loan spell has been seesawing so far.

Our Take on Inter

Inzaghi seems to like Acerbi more, plus he can pull double-duty and deputize Alessandro Bastoni since he’s a lefty. He might accept a smaller role better at this stage of his career. Since they are hunting for an anchor, Beukema, Hien, and Bijol are better fits than Gila, even though he’s excellent. The Udinese man would be the cheapest and easier to sign, but the other two have more quality.
