Legendary former Nerazzurri captain Beppe Bergomi feels that Inter Milan lack “control” even when they win matches.

Inter have won their last couple of matches in Serie A. They beat Udinese and Torino.

These wins were vital to bounce back from a crushing defeat against AC Milan in the derby last month.

Meanwhile, Inter overpowered Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, winning by an emphatic 4-0 scoreline.

But beyond the results, the performances haven’t exactly been convincing from the Nerazzurri.

Against both Udinese and Torino, Inter needed to score three goals to ensure victory.

Both the Friulani and the Granata scored late goals to set up finishes that were far more dramatic than Inter would have preferred.

And far more than they should have been.

Not least because Torino were at a numerical disadvantage when they scored both of their goals.

Last season, Inter rarely struggled to see out matches.

The Nerazzurri’s strength was having the balance needed to set the tempo of matches.

But against Udinese and Torino, that has been decidedly lacking.

Inter have not so much failed to kill these matches off by scoring more goals as been unable to truly take the sting out of them.

Inter need to play in a certain way,” argued former Nerazzurri captain Bergomi.

“This season, even when they win, you feel like they’re almost never in control,” he argued.

Bergomi argued that Inter’s “defenders are good, but they have certain characteristics.”

“They’ll never be like [Juventus defender] Breme, who can defend 70 metres from his own goal.”

Bergomi noted that “Calhanoglu helps out a lot in defense.”

“And then, Frattesi is no Barella. He’s almost more of a striker than a midfielder.”

“That’s also part of the reason Inter have been struggling this season,” Bergomi argued.
