Inter Milan plan to extend the contract of defender Stefan de Vrij.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that Inter have communicated to the Dutchman that they’ll trigger an extension in his contract, but could also offer a new two-year deal.
At the moment, de Vrij is under contract with Inter until the end of next June.
The former Lazio and Feyenoord signed his most recent extension with the Nerazzurri in 2023. He penned a two-year deal, choosing to remain rather than leaving on a free transfer.
But the end of that contract is starting to approach.
Therefore, if de Vrij does not sign an extension, he could leave at the end of this season.
There is, however, a clause in de Vrij’s contract that would allow Inter to extend it by one season, until the end of June 2026.
And according to Tuttosport, Inter have already communicated to de Vrij’s representatives that they are currently planning to trigger that.
On the other hand, though, Inter may not just extend de Vrij’s deal by one season.
Tuttosport report that the Nerazzurri could begin talks with the 32-year-old’s representatives on a two-year extension until the end of June 2027.
De Vrij’s excellent form in recent seasons has certainly underlined what a reliable servant he is.
Therefore, Inter may wish to keep the Dutchman on for a couple more years.
In the meantime, Tuttosport also confirm that de Vrij has rebuffed January interest from Napoli.
