Milan 2-0 Monza
Sérgio Conceição’s Milan ended a disappointing season in Italy with a 2-0 victory over Monza on Saturday evening, with João Félix continuing his positive finish to the campaign.
Mian will finish 7th or 8th in Serie A depending on Bologna’s result on Sunday, culminating in a likely departure of Conceição as early as Monday according to local reports.
Felix scored a classy free-kick in the second half to clinch the points against Monza, adding to an earlier goal by Matteo Gabbia. The goal means that Félix, having previously not scored since his Rossoneri debut in February, has now struck in both of Milan’s closing matches of the term against Roma last week and now Monza.
Brazil move rejected – report
Félix looks almost certain to return to parent club Chelsea this summer, given Milan’s failure to secure European football and his underwhelming performances in Italy. Where the former Benfica man appears next remains hard to guess, with reports over the weekend suggesting Felix was approached by Flamengo’s Portuguese sporting director Jose Boto, but politely refused a move to Brazil due to his desire to remain in European football.
Félix has been linked more strongly with a move to Turkey and Istanbul giants Fenerbahce or Galatasaray, while a Benfica homecoming has also been mooted in some quarters. The situation is all the more curious given Félix signed a 7-year contract at Chelsea just last summer, only to be allowed to leave on loan midway through the campaign.
Conceição’s future appears more clearcut, with the ex-Porto boss expected to be relieved of his duties at Milan early next week. Milan fans jeered the team during the match against Monza, while a group of 5,000 supporters protested in favour of the removal of the management structure at the club.
Stories have emerged over the past week suggesting Igli Tare will be announced as Milan sporting director on Monday, after which the new man at the helm is anticipated to dispense with Conceição after just five months in charge.
