“Kind of annoying” – Chelsea starter with two goals refuses compliment about his form

Jadon Sancho was the man who spoke to Chelsea TV after yesterday’s win, and he had some interesting insight on how the Blues’ opposition had caught them out with a change of system:
“Before the game we thought they were going to play a line of 4, and then after the warmup the manager said they were playing a line of five, so we had to adapt,” the winger explained.
That was something manager Enzo Maresca mentioned in his press conference. Luckily the Italian coach was on hand to tinker with his setup to get the win.
“It’s kind of annoying, because throughout the week we prepared our press for a line of 4, but again that’s why we believe in our manager, he tells us what to do next and we just adapt. From there it all went well.”

The man asking the questions prompted Sancho to be proud about his current form, but in fact that winger took things the other way and admitted he was rather disappointed, especially about not scoring after he had a great effort tipped onto the woodwork:
“[My form is returning] step by step, I know I can do better, especially in front of goal. It was kind of annoying not to score, but I know it’ll come, I just have to take time and be patient. Step by step, but I’m very happy with the boys today.”
He’s right – he needs to do better in front of goal and be more decisive, both in goals and assists. He’s notched twice in 15 starts this season. But we’re delighted to see him recognise that he must do better: it’s the first step towards making it happen.
