Despite previously being considered one of Manchester United’s few ‘untouchable’ players, Alejandro Garnacho is no longer off-limits for any interested clubs.
Recent reports have come as a tremendous shock to the Old Trafford faithful after the ever-reliable David Ornstein revealed last night that Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo could be offloaded at some stage if a suitable offer arrives.
For fans, the prospect of Mainoo – in particular – being sold is unfathomable, as it would’ve been with Garnacho this time last year before his form faltered somewhat. Even still, shipping off academy graduates simply to comply with the league’s financial restrictions shouldn’t be how a club like United, who pride themselves on their renowned youth system, operate.

The Argentine’s exit may be edging closer on the horizon amid interest from his former club, Atletico Madrid. Alex Crook of talkSPORT claims the La Liga giants have been ‘keeping tabs’ on his situation, and, in turn, United ‘would consider’ any substantial bids that arrive their way.
Garnacho, 20, is now on his longest run of games without a start – when fully fit – since he made his senior bow in October 2022, having gone seven matches without being named in Ruben Amorim’s XI.
It comes after the young livewire was dropped from the matchday squad entirely for December’s Manchester derby along with Marcus Rashford. However, the latter has yet to be restored to the side or feature since.
TBR Football added fuel to the fire today by reporting Garnacho was growing ‘frustrated’ with the role he’s playing under the new head coach. It’s said that he is ‘rated highly’ by all involved at United, but key decision-makers won’t stand in his way if he pushes to ply his trade elsewhere.
He is contracted to the club until 2028, giving INEOS chiefs major leverage over his situation.
