Real Madrid are providing Xabi Alonso with everything he desires to begin his rebuild at the club with new signings flowing through the door.

Dean Huijsen is the first signing of the summer and Los Blancos are now close to bringing in Alvaro Carreras and Trent Alexander-Arnold as well. The midfield, however, is a position they still require reinforcement in.

As it stands, the Merengues are close to bringing back Nico Paz to the club to provide Alonso with depth in the department. Another big name signing, however, cannot be ruled out.

Martin Zubimendi was one of the most widely linked midfielders to the Spanish capital in recent months with the administration and management admiring his technical quality, prowess on the ball, and ability to hold the fortress.

Arsenal’s interest and advanced negotiations, however, complicated matters for Real Madrid and the player was even said to be on the verge of signing for the London-based side. In fact, he is still very close to an official transfer.

Zubimendi back on the agenda

However, as per COPE, the Real Madrid option can still not be ruled out and there is a remote chance that Zubimendi can don the white jersey next season.

Everything points to Zubimendi completing his move to Mikel Arteta’s side, but a call from Real Madrid could well be the difference as relayed by the Spanish outlet.

Any approach from Real Madrid and the Spanish international, who has a €60 million release clause, is open to changing his next club.

Zubimendi is waiting for the call to arrive, and as such, the move to Arsenal is at a pause. But it is clear that he cannot stall his transfer for long.

The pressure, thus, is now on Real Madrid to decide if they are going for the swoop or not. After all, the player ticks all the boxes the manager demands.

In the recently concluded league season, the midfielder racked up 36 league appearances for Real Sociedad with two goals, an assist and one big chance created to his name. Notably, he averaged close to ten defensive actions per game.
