Serie A giants Inter picked up a vital 2-0 win over Feyenoord in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
Lautaro Martinez was key to the win, as he grabbed the team’s second goal. In the process, he also became the highest goalscorer in Inter’s European history.
The Argentine, who has struggled for consistency this season, spoke to Sky Italia after the game and spoke about making history. He stated that he wants to continue doing more of the same for the Nerazzurri.
He said, via TMW: “I feel proud, I would never have imagined it. I have worked and sweated so much. People know what I have been through, all sacrifice and credit to the work. I have to continue and I will work to the maximum because I want more.”
Speaking of his future at Inter, the striker stated that he would be happy to stay at the club for his entire career.
“Of course, I’m happy here. Every day I wake up wanting to go to the pitch. And my family is happy too.”
When asked about whether winning the Champions League is Inter’s goal for the season, he binned talk of that.
“I can’t say that, we think game by game. Today we gave a great signal. We’ve been playing every two or three days for months, but we always defend our shirt and we will always give our all for the shirt.”
Inter have now conceded only one goal in the Champions League campaign so far and it says everything about their season and Martinez would hope it helps them go all the way.
