Lazio might consider giving a discount on Aston Villa and Newcastle United target Matteo Guendouzi if they miss out on the Champions League or Europa League.
Former Arsenal star Guendouzi has been excellent for Lazio this season and has featured in all but one league game for them so far this season.
The Frenchman is highly rated at Lazio and he is gathering interest from Newcastle and Aston Villa regarding a summer move.
However, Guendouzi is not pushing for a move, as he is happy in Rome, but wants an improved contract.
Lazio are currently sixth in the Serie A table and are battling to qualify for Europe heading into the final matchday of the season.
The Roman outfit are considering selling Guendouzi, who has a €50m release clause in his contract, to generate cash to finance their summer business.
According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato , the Serie A outfit could open up to letting the former Arsenal midfielder go for a fee closer to the €40m mark.
It has been suggested that Guendouzi’s entourage have been approached by Premier League clubs and Lazio are waiting to see if anyone will come with a bid close to €50m.
However, in the case of securing a place in the Champions League or Europa League, the situation regarding his future could change.
Getting into Europe would give Lazio the financial strength to think about keeping Guendouzi and renewing his contract on improved terms.
The Italian outfit are planning to build the team around Nicolo Rovella, but they could still keep Guendouzi if the cards fall in their favour.
Aston Villa and Newcastle will likely keep a close eye on Lazio’s game against Lecce at the weekend, which might be crucial in deciding Guendouzi’s future.
Newcastle and Aston Villa will also go into the weekend to see which European competition they will find themselves in next season.
Securing Champions League football might prove crucial in convincing the midfielder to join them in the summer.
