Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has hardly put a foot wrong in the past 24 months for both club and country.

The reliable goalkeeper is one of the Reds players who was in action for his country on Sunday, and once again, he did a decent job.

Kelleher was brilliant in the Republic of Ireland’s 2-1 win in the first leg of their Nations League promotion/relegation play-off against Bulgaria at the Hristo Botev Stadium.

On Sunday, Ireland won 2-1 at Aviva Stadium to secure a 4-2 aggregate win and retain their place in Nations League B.

Like the previous leg, they came from behind to secure a 2-1 win, with goals coming from Evan Ferguson and Adam Idah.

What the Irish media are saying about the Liverpool goalie

Kelleher wasn’t at fault for the opening goal, and like the previous leg, he was not required to make strong saves either.

The Irish Mirror gave him a 6/10 rating, saying – “Little to do apart from fishing the ball from his net before half-time.”

The Irish Independent also rated the Reds goalkeeper 6/10. They wrote, “Couldn’t do a lot about Bulgaria’s opener and was only tested once after the restart, while his distribution was excellent.”

The newspaper wrote: “Flat-footed for Antov’s flash opener, did fine afterwards as Ireland gained more control.”

Kelleher could leave in the summer window

The Irish goalkeeper has been absolutely outstanding for Liverpool over the years, but it appears that time has come for him to move elsewhere and play regularly.

The problem for Kelleher is that Liverpool have Alisson Becker as the first-choice option. The Brazilian is arguably one of the best keepers in the world, and Kelleher has found game time hard to come by.

Liverpool will welcome Georgian star Giorgi Mamardashvili to Merseyside in the summer, and it could force Kelleher to consider a future away from Anfield.

At 26, he should be playing regularly for any top Premier League side. AFC Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are keen to sign him, and a fee in the region of £30m should be enough to lure him away.
