Caoimhin Kelleher’s journey from promising academy prospect to seasoned silverware winner at Anfield is set for a new chapter, as the Liverpool goalkeeper prepares to join Brentford in a deal worth £12.5 million, potentially rising to £18 million with add-ons. The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international leaves behind a trophy-laden spell under the lights of Merseyside to pursue regular Premier League football in West London.
Kelleher, who made his Liverpool debut five years ago, has featured in 25 Premier League games and over 40 cup ties. His honours list includes two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups and a UEFA Super Cup. With just a year remaining on his contract and new competition arriving in the form of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, the timing appears right for both player and club.
“Giorgi Mamardashvili will join the Premier League champions in July to compete for the number one shirt with established first choice Alisson Becker.”
Brentford have moved swiftly to secure Kelleher, viewing him as the ideal successor to Mark Flekken. The Dutch international is set to join Bayer Leverkusen in a deal understood to be worth around £8 million.
Flekken, signed from Freiburg for £11 million in May 2023, was a standout performer in the Bundesliga and carried that form into English football. He featured in all but two Premier League matches over the past two seasons, keeping 14 clean sheets and contributing three assists.
“He had kept more clean sheets than any goalkeeper in the Bundesliga over the previous two seasons and has only strengthened his reputation while at Brentford.”
As Brentford reshuffle between the posts, Kelleher arrives not just with potential, but with pedigree.
