Liverpool were great once again as we ran out as 4-1 victors over Ipswich Town and one pundit has highlighted the role of one player, as the best in the league.

Writing for BBC Sport for his Premier League team of the week, Troy Deeney said about Trent Alexander-Arnold: ‘This is the first time you’re going to hear me say this and probably the last.

‘I was at the game and I would pay a huge amount of money to watch that.

‘He was incredible; passing range, fitness, endeavour, defensive work as well as attacking work. He hit the bar.

‘I thought he was excellent. Player of the weekend by a country mile.’

Quite why it’s the first and last time he’ll say this is a little unclear but it’s nice to see our vice captain receive some praise for what was a brilliant performance.

Paul Merson shared this viewpoint of the Scouser who put on a passing masterclass against the newly promoted outfit this weekend.

Normally they may be two pundits that we seem to agree less with than others, yet they have both got this assessment absolutely right.

The assist for Cody Gakpo’s second goal was exactly what we’ve come to expect from our academy graduate and it was another textbook cross.

Now it will all once again boil down to discussions over the future of our No.66, with Robbie Fowler’s theory of him not signing a contract whilst Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk have – growing in support.

We’d love the 26-year-old to sign a new deal but the longer this all carries on, the less likely it feels.
