Mohamed Salah is now able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with any club, as his Liverpool deal is set to expire in June. With the new year underway, reports have started linking the 32-year-old forward to Paris Saint-Germain.
However, one pundit believes that extending Salah’s contract would be the best move, especially given the large sum of money Liverpool would need to find his replacement.
L’Équipe recently reported that PSG have opened talks with Salah’s representatives, and the Egyptian forward is reportedly warming to the idea of joining the French club, sparking further speculation about a potential move to Paris.
Still, PSG quickly denied the rumors. A club spokesperson told L’Équipe, “It’s not true.” The report also suggests that Salah could be using the speculation to strengthen his position in ongoing contract talks with Liverpool.
Football Insider claims that Salah is pushing for a significant contract extension, hoping to secure a deal that would keep him at Anfield until 2027, adding three more years to his current contract.

Football pundit Eni Aluko has advised Liverpool to offer Salah an even bigger contract, suggesting that a £500,000-a-week deal could actually save the club money in the long run.
“So the transfer window is closed and we still have no real news about what is happening with Mo Salah, so I want to do a financial breakdown of what it looks like for Liverpool to keep Mo Salah vs letting him go,” Aluko said (h/t TEAMtalk).
“Mo Salah is currently on £350,000 a week as reported, and that’s just base salary. The biggest competitor to Liverpool right now is the Saudi league and I think he’s asking Liverpool for £500,000-per-week, so £500,000 multiplied by 52 is £26m a year.
“If Mo Salah is asking for a three-year contract, that’s £78m over three years. If Liverpool let Salah go for free in June 2025, they are losing an asset who they could get a transfer fee worth upwards of £150m for.
“Replacing Mo Salah is going to cost at least £150m, so we’re looking at £150m to replace Mo Salah versus £26m to keep him for a year versus £78m over three years. Liverpool are making a saving of £72m by keeping Mo Salah, so straight away, that proves my point.”
Meanwhile, Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus recently confirmed that he wants the club to sign Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah during the summer transfer window.
