Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood’s exploits at Olympique de Marseille have put him on the radar of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool, as per reports.
After marking his return to professional football in Spain with Getafe during the 2023/24 campaign, Greenwood moved to the south of France last summer to join Marseille.
United agreed to sell the academy product to the Ligue 1 outfit in a deal worth £26.6 million and the Englishman is starting to look like a bargain signing for the Phocaeans.
In just 25 appearances, Greenwood has managed to bag 15 goals and three assists in all competitions under Roberto De Zerbi.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Barcelona are keen on bringing the 23-year-old back to Spain, having already started negotiations with Marseille to secure his services in the summer transfer window.
However, it is understood the Blaugrana’s financial predicament has made the pursuit difficult for them, with the French outfit looking to raise €75m from his sale.
According to Fichajes, Barca are not the only club chasing Greenwood’s signature.
They surprisingly claim that Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Juventus are all interested in signing the right-winger.
Further, the Spanish outlet claim that the Reds are willing to meet Marseille’s price tag of €75m.
They add that the Merseyside giants have “great financial muscle that could beat any offer from the Catalan side.”
With Mo Salah nearing the end of his contract at Anfield, Arne Slot would need a capable forward to play on the right flank and Greenwood certainly has the potential to impress at the highest level.
Having said that, his connection to United and off-field allegations mean it is very unlikely he will return to England, let alone join the Mancunians’ fierce rivals. It is probably best to take the report with a pinch of salt.
