Paris Saint-Germain generated many scoring chances in their 1-0 first leg loss to Liverpool on Wednesday night at Parc des Princes. However, the star of the match and the player that kept the capital club off the score sheet was Alisson Becker.

The Ligue 1 side dominated the first half, outshooting Liverpool 12-1, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Luis Enrique’s side thought they had taken the lead when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia curled a shot into the top-left corner, but VAR ruled him offside by the slimmest of margins.

Alisson made four saves in the first half and added five more after the break. Despite PSG’s relentless pressure, it was Liverpool that struck late.

In the 87th minute, Alisson sent a long ball to Darwin Nunez, who won a duel and set up substitute Harvey Elliott. The young midfielder kept his cool and slotted the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma, giving Liverpool the advantage heading into the second leg.

After the Liverpool win, Alisson spoke with TNT Sports, and of course, they asked the 32-year-old where this performance ranks in his career.

“Yeah, probably of my life I think – so far, hopefully,” Alisson said (h/t Liverpoolfc.com). “The manager was telling us how hard it would be to play against PSG, how good they are with the ball and we have to be ready to suffer.

“When you see the clips from the opponent, you know what is coming, so much quality in their side. But we as well work hard. Yeah, we gave away so many chances but always with a player on the ball, some of them with a one-v-one but the biggest part of the chase is always having someone to make the player who is having the chance think a little bit more.

“So, it makes my job easier, all the effort the team puts in. At the end, Harvey coming in and scoring the goal, it’s unbelievable and a great story for us. A great night.”
