Liverpool missed the opportunity to deliver a potentially fatal blow to Arsenal in the Premier League title race on Wednesday evening.
Victory for the Reds in the rearranged Merseyside derby would have sent them nine points clear of the injury-stricken Gunners with 14 games to spare, but James Tarkowski's thunderbolt in the 98th-minute consigned Liverpool to an underwhelming draw at Goodison Park.
It's been a week of tumult for Arsenal amid a growing injury crisis but Everton's last-gasp equaliser means they still have an outside shot of usurping Liverpool in the Premier League table. Seven points behind their rivals with a trip to Anfield to come in May, Mikel Arteta's men must be more or less perfect between now and the campaign's conclusion.
Arsenal have the ability to apply pressure to Liverpool during Gameweek 25. They face off against struggling Leicester City on Saturday lunchtime, over 24 hours before the table toppers are in action at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
But how does Arsenal's form compare to Liverpool's heading into a crucial weekend?

Liverpool have been far from flawless since the turn of the year. They have been beaten by Tottenham Hotspur, PSV Eindhoven and Plymouth Argyle in the cup competitions, while they have only managed three wins from their six Premier League matches.
January began with an unconvincing draw that has somewhat epitomised Liverpool's calendar year thus far. There were plenty of positives from their clash with bitter rivals Manchester United, but their lack of killer instinct proved costly at Anfield.
Surprise package Nottingham Forest held Liverpool in the Premier League nine days later as they missed the opportunity to move even further clear at the summit, but a trio of victories against Brentford, Ipswich Town and Bournemouth saw the Reds get back on track.
They left it late to beat Brentford - Darwin Nunez bagging a stoppage-time double - but things were much more comfortable against the Tractor Boys and Cherries.
Three consecutive triumphs had Liverpool supporters feeling confident heading across Stanley Park on Wednesday evening, even if Everton had been in impressive form since David Moyes' return. But for the tenth time in their last 13 visits to Goodison, the Reds were forced to settle for a solitary point as the dogged Toffees struck late to secure a hard-fought draw.

Arsenal participated in the first Premier League encounter of 2025, travelling across London to face Brentford on New Year's Day. Despite falling behind early doors, the Gunners showed impressive resilience to beat the Bees 3-1 thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli.
Travelling to Brentford is never straightforward and the same can be said of visiting Brighton & Hove Albion. For the second time this term, Arsenal could only manage a 1-1 draw with the Seagulls after a controversial penalty left Arteta exasperated after the full-time whistle.
Fortune didn't favour Arsenal on the south coast and it has generally eluded them this calendar year. Injuries have stacked up - especially in the forward line - but the Gunners have managed to cope well without key personnel. A much-needed 2-1 win over north London foes Tottenham saw them keep pace with Liverpool in mid-January.
Things were less rosy as they surrendered a two-goal lead at home to Aston Villa just three days later but they once again showed their character as they battled with ten men to sneak victory away at Wolves.
Arteta's men secured a statement victory the following weekend against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City. The Cityzens are a shadow of their former selves but the Gunners still flexed their attacking muscles with a rampant 5-1 victory that served as a warning sign to Liverpool.

Liverpool may have been the form team in the Premier League this season but Arsenal actually boast a superior record since the beginning of the year. The Gunners have won four and drawn two of their six league games, while the Reds have won three and drawn as many.
Arsenal have scored one more than their title competitors, too, while both teams have conceded six in as many matches. Despite public perception and nagging fitness woes, Arteta's side have managed to come through a difficult period with their heads held high.
However, things are likely to get much tougher in the coming weeks. With Kai Havertz out for the rest of the season and Bukayo Saka suffering an injury setback on his road to recovery, the Gunners are incredibly short on attacking options with Jesus and Martinelli also on the sidelines. They will be hard pushed to keep pace with Liverpool over the next six matches.
The Reds may not be in their groove just now but there is an acceptance that they will sort themselves out sooner rather than later. A tough run of fixtures on the horizon offers Arsenal hope, but Mohamed Salah and Co. should rise to the challenge.
