Matt Bloomfield has had his say regarding the vacant managerial role at Coventry City.
Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has welcomed being touted with the Coventry City managerial vacancy following the departure of Mark Robins this week.
Over the last seven years, Robins has achieved some fantastic things with the Sky Blues, having guided them to promotions from League Two to the Championship, as well as leading them to an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
The 54-year-old built an identity at the club and came incredibly close to reaching the Premier League two years ago, but fell short on penalties to Luton Town in the play-off final.
Sadly, this season has not gone to plan so far for Coventry as they find themselves in the bottom half after a slow start to the 2024-25 campaign, despite pre-season expectations of a promotion push.
There is still a long way to go, and the Championship is incredibly competitive, so there is still plenty of time for the Sky Blues to turn things around and climb the table - that is why the sacking of Robins just 14 games into the season came as a huge surprise, because they were far from being in any real danger.
There is no denying that City have endured a poor start to the campaign, as they won just four of their opening 14 league games, but sacking a popular figure in the form of Robins is a controversial solution to the problem.
Nevertheless, Coventry are now on the hunt for a new boss, and the current manager of Wycombe Wanderers is one name to have been linked with the vacant role, with The Guardian claiming that their is interest in the 40-year-old from the CBS Arena hierarchy.

Bloomfield is a Wycombe Wanderers legend, having made over 550 appearances for the club as a player before becoming manager in 2023, making the switch from Colchester United.
Now, after a quite simply stunning opening third of the League One season, Bloomfield is now being linked with a further move to the Championship, but it appears that he is remaining focused on his job at hand.
Bloomfield spoke to the media after Wycombe's win over Wigan this past weekend, and in typical fashion, he brushed off an immediate move to the Sky Blues despite being honoured to be linked.
"I’ve not heard anything from my club," Bloomfield told James Richings of the Bucks Free Press.
As far as I am concerned, it is just speculation. It is lovely to be linked with jobs higher up the food chain as it shows that the job you are doing is the right one."
"I haven’t had any time to sit and think, and as far as I am concerned, there is nothing to think about. My only focus is this football club.
"This club means a lot to me, the fans mean a lot to me, and the players have my sole focus."

Ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, the likes of Birmingham City, Wrexham, Huddersfield Town and Bolton were all tipped for promotion from League One, but not many expected Wycombe Wanderers to be leading the pack by November.
They have played one more game than Birmingham at this moment in time, but Wycombe sit top of the table on an impressive 32 points from their first 14 games, and of those matches, 10 have been wins.
Bloomfield deserves a lot of praise for how he has set his team up this season, as they are currently competing with the best that League One has to offer on a much lesser budget compared to their competitors.
It makes plenty of sense that Bloomfield has been linked with a role higher up the football pyramid, and despite having strong links to the Chairboys, it wouldn't be held against him if he were to take the opportunity on hand at Coventry - should he be offered it.
