Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique was confident that his side can still qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals despite losing the first leg of their last-16 tie against Liverpool on Wednesday.
The French champions were suffocatingly dominant in Paris, racking up 27 shots, ten of which were on target. However, while Harvey Elliott scored the game's only goal in the 87th minute with Liverpool's second and final attempt of the match, PSG could not find a way past an inspired Alisson.
When asked if his side could overturn the 1-0 deficit at the second leg in Anfield, Enrique swiftly replied: "Without a doubt."
"There will be an aggressive atmosphere there but we have nothing to lose now," the Spanish boss softly seethed. "We will go there without speculating. We've already turned this kind of situation around: last year we lost our home match in the quarter-finals but we still qualified [2-3 defeat against Barcelona, then 4-1 victory in the return]. We know it will be difficult, but once again we have nothing to lose and that makes us more dangerous. We will try to look Liverpool in the eye."
Enrique was full of praise for Arne Slot's all-conquering outfit ahead of the fixture, yet Liverpool failed to come anywhere near the quality they have demonstrated throughout most of the season.
"I think that the analysis of the match is not difficult to do," Enrique huffed. "We were much superior to Liverpool in the game and in terms of the chances created. Against the best team in Europe, we played a complete match, we knew how to defend well, take risks.
"We deserved a different result. Football can be unfair, you have to accept it. During the first five minutes, Liverpool played better than us but then we dominated them. The match was not decided on details, because there was a much superior team to the other. Simply Alisson made five exceptional saves. The fact that the best player of the Reds was their goalkeeper is quite revealing."
