Lyon convincingly defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Bayern Campus to near book their spot in the Champions League semi final.
Scorers: Chawinga 35', Dumornay 65'
In a mostly even first half that had few chances, Lyon always looked the more likely to take the lead and did so 10 minutes before the break through Tabitha Chawinga.
It was a fine finish from the former PSG star, who grabbed her first Champions League goal for her new club since her move this season, but Bayern played a huge role in their own downfall.
Linda Sembrant attempted to deal with a long ball but instead knocked the ball into Chawinga, who then raced through with no defender moving towards her, before smashing past Mala Grohs.
Lyon missed a golden opportunity to double their lead on the stroke of half time when they were awarded a penalty. However, Lindsey Heaps could not convert, seeing her penalty well stopped by Grohs, who marked her first start since a recovery from cancer in truly incredible fashion.
The eight-time champions dusted themselves down at the break, and dominated Bayern for large parts of the second half. They eventually got their second in the 65th minute, with Heaps redeeming herself with an assist.
Again Bayern did not cover themselves in glory, failing to deal with Lyon captain Wendie Renard's long ball, which Melchie Dumornay knocked down to Heaps, The American then returned the favour to the midfielder, who finished neatly inside the box.
Lyon could have added to their lead ahead of the second leg, but will be extremely confident of finishing the job next week back home.
