Manchester United have released a statement after the club was hit with a fresh two-star food hygiene rating. This follows the discovery of “mice droppings” at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, United have been working hard to improve their hygiene score since late last year, when it was slashed from four stars to two.

However, those efforts have suffered a significant setback after inspectors found mice droppings at their grounds.

The Mail explain that they saw a report which detailed the discovery of mice droppings in a number of places at Old Trafford including the Ambassador Lounge, in the Manchester Suite, and in the Number 7 suite.

It’s understood some of these droppings were found under the buffet bar.

A United spokesperson said about this latest development, “Manchester United implements a robust pest-control system throughout Old Trafford.”

“Multiple weekly checks are made in all catering areas and stringent measures are taken to ensure levels of hygiene and cleanliness are high wherever food is stored, prepared and served.”

“If incidences of this nature do occur at the stadium, immediate and appropriate action is taken.”

Mice droppings are not the only concern. Health inspectors are believed to have also flagged “dirty” areas and the questionable labelling of some food products.

United are working on improving these issues in a bid to get a better food hygiene rating in the future.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim and his players are back in action on Wednesday evening when they take on fellow Premier League strugglers Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Europa League at San Mames.

Winning the clash would not only see the Red Devils lift a European trophy, but also secure themselves a place in next season’s Champions League.
