Manchester United have a problem of plenty at the moment with the club languishing in 14th position in the Premier League while most of the players continue to struggle in Ruben Amorim’s system.
Against Newcastle, in the absence of the suspended Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte, the head coach was forced to start with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the middle of the park.
And safe to say, that experiment did not work and the Portuguese tactician could do with help in that department via the January window.
The only problem is: the club do not have the financial means to go all gung-ho this winter unless significant player sales were to occur.
And that means, as per Givemesport, a move for Atalanta midfield dynamo Ederson will have to wait until next summer, at least if he does stay with the Serie A club.
The 25-year-old is currently a mainstay at the Bergamo-based outfit, who are leading the league table and the Red Devils are aware that the player will not be interested to jump ship at this stage in favour of a relegation scrap.
United will have a better chance of convincing Ederson of the merits of moving to Old Trafford in the summer but as recently relayed by The Peoples Person, Manchester City are also interested in the Brazilian and they have the chance to pounce unimpeded in January.
“Manchester United are not in a position to beat Manchester City to the signing of Ederson ahead of the winter transfer window’s deadline and will make their move to lure him to Old Trafford if he is still with Serie A outfit Atalanta in the summer, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.
“GMS sources have been informed that Manchester City entering the race for Ederson could cause a significant problem for Amorim as Manchester United have budgetary constraints stopping them from getting involved in a potential bidding war.
“Manchester United are aware that it would be difficult to persuade Ederson to swap a Serie A title challenge for Old Trafford thanks to being in their current position, GMS sources understand, but they remain hopeful of being able to turn his head before next season gets underway as they will have more scope to spend big.”
Ederson, described as being “out of this world“, certainly fits the mould as an Amorim signing with his intensity and engine a perfect fit for what the United head coach wants with scouts impressed with what they have seen thus far.
However, the Brazilian has a contract at Atalanta until 2027 and would likely cost around €60 million, a price INEOS can only pay if they can offload big-name stars like Casemiro and Marcus Rashford before the start of next season.
