Manchester United have triggered the one-year extension clause contained in Grace Clinton’s contract, extending her stay at the club at least until the summer of 2026.

Clinton joined United from Everton in 2022 but only made her competitive debut this season.

She is enjoying a fantastic campaign, with the Reds currently in fourth place in the Women’s Super League rankings and seven points below table leaders Chelsea.

The midfielder is currently United’s joint-top goalscorer in the WSL alongside striker Elisabeth Terland.

Clinton’s deal was due to expire in the summer, but now she will remain at United for an additional 12 months while they go about trying to tie her down to longer and improved terms.

According to Skinner, United should build the team around the impressive Clinton.

Skinner said [via BBC], “Grace has been fantastic this year. She is a fantastic product of the loan system. It was Bristol [City] for six months and then she went away to Tottenham and has come back in fantastic form.”

“The way we have gone around the transfer market is to go into a younger model with talented players that we can grow. Grace fits that fantastically. Grace is a player that we should be building this future team around.”

The United boss insisted he’s hopeful that the club will eventually agree a new deal with the 21-year-old.

“I know the club will be meeting Grace and her representatives to discuss that and what terms look like.”

“I don’t have any say in that, but of course, that is something I’d love us to pish and I’d love Grace to stay here for a long time. I am absolutely certain those conversations will be taking place.”

United return to action tomorrow when they face West Bromwich Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Leigh Sports Village. Kick-off is at 17:15 GMT.
