Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Al-Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
A new centre-forward is a top priority for Ruben Amorim, following the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rasmus Hojlund endured an extremely difficult 2024/25 season, only scoring four Premier League goals. It’s increasingly evident that he may not be the right fit to spearhead United’s attack. With reported interest from Italian clubs, speculation around his future continues to grow. Regardless of whether he stays or goes, United are in urgent need of a proven, top-tier striker.
Liam Delap emerged as United’s first-choice but he snubbed the club and is on the brink of signing for Chelsea.
Other strikers mentioned to be on the Red Devils’ radar include Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting CP), Victor Osuimhen (Napoli), Benjamin Sesko and Jean-Phillippe Mateta (Crystal Palace).
Now, talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs has revealed that former Fulham man Aleksandar Mitrovic is also of interest to United.
Mitrovic has scored an impressive 68 goals in 79 games since quitting the Premier League to join Al-Hilal two years ago in a £50million move.
The Serbian famously netted 43 goals in 44 games during Fulham’s 2021/22 promotion campaign, but his most prolific Premier League season saw him score 14 goals. Yet that tally is nearly double the total of United’s leading scorers last season, with both Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo managing just eight goals each.
According to Jacobs, Al-Hilal are focused on bringing in players and making marquee signings ahead of the Club World Cup, but they’re aware of the need to offload some stars to meet foreign quota rules.
It’s understood that Saudi Pro League outfit want to sell or even loan out Mitrovic. However, they first want to secure the services of his replacement before letting him go.
United are “considering a move” for the 30-year-old, having missed out on Delap. Other Premier League clubs in the race for Mitrovic are West Ham and Everton.
Mitrovic is available for a sum of around £40m. He is open to a return to England and is even willing to take a pay cut to get a deal over the line.
Fulham are not expected to try and stage a reunion with Mitrovic.
