Manchester United will take on some familiar faces at Fenerbahce this evening, as the Red Devils face off against a former manager and players.
Jose Mourinho awaits in Istanbul in a clash packed full of narrative, while the Turkish team also boast ex-Manchester United midfielders Fred and Sofyan Amrabat in their side.
Erik ten Hag’s team have made a poor start to the season in the Premier League and their European exploits have followed suit. United have drawn each of their opening two Europa League games, having been held at home by FC Twente before blowing a two-goal lead to draw at Porto.
Fenerbahce have taken four points from their opening two European fixtures but have had a disappointing start domestically. Mourinho’s men are fourth in the Süper Lig, eight points behind Galatasaray with a game in hand.
Manchester United will be without captain Bruno Fernandes in Istabul after the midfielder’s red card in the draw at Porto last time out. The Portugal international picked up two bookings at The Estádio do Dragão and will sit out a one-game suspension.
Fernandes’s absence leaves the Red Devils short in midfield with Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo currently sidelined. Casemiro will also be assessed ahead of the clash. Harry Maguire is also out injured, alongside left-back duo Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Noussair Mazraoui could return to the team after a minor heart operation, while Leny Yoro is back in training but not ready to feature.
Manchester United predicted XI: Andre Onana; Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot; Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Christian Eriksen; Amad Diallo, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund.
Fenerbahce host Manchester United at The Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium on Thursday 24th October. Kick-off is 20:00 BST.
In the UK, the game will be televised live on TNT Sports 2, with coverage starting at 19:00. A live stream can be watched on Discovery+.
