Mason Mount delighted as long Man Utd wait finally ends | OneFootball

It took almost two long years of waiting but on Thursday night Mason Mount finally grabbed his first home goals for Manchester United and could not hide his joy.

The midfielder has endured an injury-hit spell at the club since arriving from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 but savoured a memorable night in the Europa League against Athletic Club, scoring twice (including a wonder strike from range) to help his side to a 7-1 aggregate win to reach the final.

Afterwards he admitted that such a moment has been a long time coming for him as he finally got to celebrate a goal with the home support.

"It was too long [waiting to score at Old Trafford]. I have had injuries and setbacks but I always stayed positive and knew something good was gonna come and it has paid off," Mount said.

"I carried on going, working hard, enjoying it every day, trying to stay positive. It has been difficult since I’ve been here. When I have the opportunity like this to come on in these games, I was just trying to make an impact, and as I say, it paid off.

"The crowd has been unbelievable. They stuck with us. For me personally, [I scored] my first goals here at Old Trafford, so it is a special night, one I have been waiting for a long time."

United will face Tottenham in the Europa League final in Bilbao.
