Arsenal registered an emphatic 5-1 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Gunners had five different goalscorers, including Kai Havertz. The German international also provided a second-minute assist for Martin Odegaard’s goal.

Havertz was guilty of missing a clear-cut scoring chance midway through the opening half but made amends by bagging the Gunners’ fourth goal on the counter-attack in the 76th minute.

Captain Martin Odegaard praised Havertz after the game.

He told Sky Sports (via BBC Sport): “Massive impact again today. You see everything he does. He scored and assisted – he is always there with and without the ball – a top player.”

“It is good to have him in the team. We have a good connection, and we understand each other. Intelligent player and it is good to play with him.

“We have a great connection with everyone, and we know each other so well.”

Havertz had the best start to the game with a brilliant assist for Odegaard but made the headlines at the interval after squandering another golden opportunity to score.

However, he kept up his intensity in the second half and bagged a goal of his own. The German answered his critics in fine fashion with two goal contributions on the day.

Havertz has accumulated 15 goals and five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions this term. It is his best scoring campaign since moving to England.

Arsenal will now turn their attention to the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle United on Wednesday. They need to overturn a 2-0 deficit to make the final.

The Gunners squandered plenty of scoring opportunities in the home leg, and they need a massive performance at St James’ Park to play at Wembley Stadium next month.
