Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram has won praise for his decisive display off the bench against Young Boys in the Champions League.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, laud the Frenchman for showing his quality in difficult circumstances.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi won’t likely have hoped that he’d need a vintage Thuram performance yesterday.

The Nerazzurri coach decided to go with Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic in attack from the first minute.

And the two experienced strikers did lead the line fairly effectively.

There was no shortage of energy and physicality from both Taremi and Arnautovic. They pressed the Young Boys backline, and held the ball up well.

But there was a lack of cutting edge in front of goal, undoubtedly.

This was most evident in Arnautovic’s missed penalty at the start of the second half.

The Austrian’s effort was too central, making it easy for the Young Boys keeper.

But it would be unfair to simply blame the poor effort from the spot by Arnautovic. Neither he nor Taremi really provided a threat in behind.

Marcus Thuram Hailed For Decisive Impact Off Bench Vs Young Boys

Inter coach Inzaghi first put his captain Lautaro Martinez on to try and get an attacking impact. The Argentine replaced Arnautovic.

But despite having been Inter’s match-winner over the weekend against Roma, Martinez was unable to produce the same sort of heroics against Young Boys.

Therefore, Inzaghi decided to also introduce Thuram.

Despite the fact that Young Boys may not be the most formidable opposition on paper, they had really held firm for much of the match against Inter.

Therefore, Inzaghi needed to have Thuram show up just as much as he has so often done in the biggest matches for Inter.

And that’s just what the Frenchman did.

Thuram injected some extra life and pace into Inter’s attack. And he showed his understanding of attacking movement and finishing ability in stoppage time.

That delivered three points that are just as important as any that Inter will get in the Champions League.
