Serie A giants Roma were at the risk of losing Matias Soule late in the winter transfer window but the player stayed and is now impressing for the Giallorossi.
The Argentine has scored and assisted in the two Serie A games and has also made an impact in the Europa League, having started against Napoli two weeks ago as well.
Claudio Ranieri is starting to trust Soule more often and his agent Martin Guastadisegno has spoken to Tuttomercatoweb about the player’s situation and how things were in the winter transfer window. He revealed that Fulham were very keen on signing him.
He said: “Fulham sought him a lot, as did Valencia in Spain and Betis. There was no shortage of requests from Italy either.”
Speaking further, the versatile playmaker’s agent said: “[There were] Different offers from Italy, Spain and Germany. Then Mati and Roma met and decided to move forward together, with more confidence. Behind his rebirth is a great job by the coach: Ranieri is once again showing that he is number one in the management of the dressing room.”
Guastadisegno also stated that Ranieri played a key role in keeping the ex-Juve player in Rome and the decision is paying off.
“The truth is that he is happy now. Like everyone else, he dreamed of space, trust. When Ranieri told him in January that they would reject all the offers, he also promised Mati that he would let him play and now he is doing it. Only the best make that assist, even the free kick the other day. Mati just needed to play, now no one talks about mental disorders anymore”
Soule made a slow start to life in Roma after having impressed in his loan stint at Frosinone last season, before Juve decided to sell him permanently. While Fulham would regret not signing the winger, he looks set to shine in the next few weeks.
