Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi knows Thursday’s Supercoppa Italiana semi-final tie against Atalanta will not be a walk in the park.
During his pre-match conference via FCInterNews, Inzaghi also outlined the club’s goals for 2025.
“Clearly, the goals for 2025 remain the same as when I arrived three and a half years ago,” he started.
“We represent Inter, a great club, and we must aim for the highest, trying to win as many trophies as possible.
“The Supercoppa means a lot to us. Since last year, we know it’s a harder trophy to win, with two games in just a few days.
“We’ll try to give our best starting tomorrow night.”
Inter closed 2024 on a high, winning five consecutive Serie A games ‘to nil.’
In doing so, they’ve reduced the gap on leaders Atalanta to a single point.
Now, the two sides will renew hostilities in Riyadh.
Indeed, Inter’s pursuit of an unprecedented fourth consecutive title requires a victory against an in-form rival.
However, Inzaghi’s charges head into proceedings in a buoyant mood, confident of reaching the grand final.
The Nerazzurri dismantled Gian Piero Gasperini’s side 4-0 earlier this season.
But Atalanta have since gone from strength to strength, and Simone Inzaghi knows better than to rest on his laurels.
“Two teams with exceptional league performances are going head-to-head,” he added. “Atalanta won the Europa League – it was a major triumph.
“They’re no longer a surprise, having spent years competing at the highest levels in the Champions League and Serie A.
“It’ll be an extremely tough match. We’ll need a great Inter to go up against a team that’s achieving so much success.
“Past results don’t step onto the field or earn points.
“This year, we faced them while the transfer window was still open, and Atalanta had many absences.
“After that match, they’ve had three and a half excellent months.
“They’re a strong, physical team with quality across the pitch.
“We’ll need a great Inter to reach the final.
“The Supercoppa is a very important objective for us; we’ve held the title for three years.
“Tomorrow, we want to put on a great performance to earn a spot in the final.
“We know there are three other teams with the same goal as Inter.
“Challenges will start right away against a great team like Atalanta, who are currently top of the league.
“Many things need to go right on the pitch. We’re in excellent form, but challenges are always around the corner.
“We have some numerical difficulties in defense and hope to recover Acerbi and Pavard by mid-January.
“Di Gennaro will still be out for some time. The others have trained well, and we’ll try to field a competitive lineup.”
