Former Inter Milan wingback Raoul Bellanova is implicated in a new betting scandal rocking Italian football.

The Corriere della Sera report that prosecutors have asked for the arrests of five betting site managers, and seized assets already.

Bellanova is among the players being investigated. These include current Juventus, AC Milan, and Roma players.

In the autumn of 2023, an online betting scandal rocked Italian and European football.

Current Newcastle United and former AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali was the most prominent player implicated. The Italian international received a ten-match ban for betting offenses.

Meanwhile, then-Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli (now on loan at FIorentina) also received a ban.

Another prominent figure in the investigation was former Inter youth team midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

However, it turns out that the scandal from 2023 is not the end of the story.

Prosecutors in Italy have opened up a new investigation into illegal online betting.

And this investigation has implicated a number of high profile footballers in Serie A and abroad.

There are around 12 players in total. The Corriere della Sera identifies these as Alessandro Florenzi, Nicolò Zaniolo, Mattia Perin, Weston McKennie, Leandro Paredes, Angel Di Maria, Raoul Bellanova, Samuele Ricci, Cristian Buonaiuto, Matteo Cancellieri, and Junior Firpo,

There are certainly a number of prominent names on that list.,

These include wingback Raoul Bellanova. Formerly of Inter Milan, Cagliari, and Torino, Bellanova currently plays for Atalanta.

Then there are Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin and midfielder Weston McKennie. As well as AC Milan and former Roma and Paris Saint-Germain defender Alessandro Florenzi.

The Corriere della Sera report that the investigation concerns an online poker site. A site run by a Serie D referee, and friend of the sister of Sandro Tonali.

The above-mentioned footballers allegedly used the platform between 2021 and 2023. The investigation does not concern football betting.

The newspaper report that the alleged offenses took place between 2021 and 2023.

Criminally speaking, none of the implicated footballers risk more than a fine. However, they could potentially receive more sever sporting punishments, such as bans.
