This Newcastle United game against Liverpool at Anfield may be looked upon by some as a dress rehearsal for the Carabao Cup Final on March 16th.

In my eyes it is not.

With home advantage and them seemingly cruising to their 20th top flight title, Liverpool will rightfully be overwhelming favourites to beat us.

They have opened up a whopping lead at the top of the Premier League table and if we’re being totally honest, there is no viable chasing pack.

That could make them slightly vulnerable on the run in and Newcastle should be ready and willing to pounce upon any complacency tonight.

We can win this fixture for sure.

We have come close to turning them over twice at Anfield in the last five seasons, only for VAR to urinate on our chips on both occasions.

If Lewis Hall can have another good game, I’m hoping this might temper the threat of the formidable Mo Salah.

Alexander Isak will fancy his chances up against the ageing Virgil Van Dijk, whilst I’m expecting Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali to get stuck right into their midfield.

When he’s on his A game, Anthony Gordon has the lickings of Trent Alexander-Arnold every day of the week. Tonight is the perfect time for Flash to show these entitled scousers what they’re not getting anytime soon.

Liverpool are not unbeatable, including at Anfield, as others have proved.

Let’s have a real go with some of the spirit we have shown this season on away trips to the Emirates, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Old Trafford and the City Ground.

The 1974 FA Cup Final, the 4-3 in 1996 that broke our hearts and helped shatter our title dream, and all the other hurt that Liverpool have inflicted upon us over the years.

Let’s bottle it all up and take it into tonight’s game, then hopefully we can get a favourable result in our quest for a Champions League place.

The impending Cup Final is a one-off game, it should be the last thing on our players minds as they file past the daunting ‘This Is Anfield’ sign tonight.
