Former Norwich City striker Iwan Roberts star has warned the Canaries that it would be naïve of them if they are not looking at the free agent market to bring in a forward to cover for the injured Josh Sargent.

Sargent went through groin surgery in the latter part of October, which will keep him out of action for at least eight weeks.

Norwich have struggled to find goals in the absence of Sargent and have suffered three straight defeats in the Championship.

Roberts stressed that Norwich should dig deep in the free agent market to find a striker to cover for Sargent’s absence but admitted that it will be a tough task to find one as good centre forwards are rare nowadays.

“With Josh Sargent out, I think City have got to be scouring the list of free agents – it would be naïve not to really”, Roberts wrote in his Pink Un column.

“But probably every club in the Championship has scoured the earth for a centre forward.

“They are few and far between; gone are the days where centre forwards are getting 20, 25 goals a season. If a centre forward gets 10 goals now he’s had a good season!”

Roberts pointed out that now is the time for the recruitment team to earn their money by scouring the market and finding a player to help Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup.

“But they will be few and far between, but the recruitment team have got to earn their corn now and look everywhere to get a centre forward in and help the man out”, he added.

“This is where if you’re head of recruitment, if you’ve got your team around you, this is where you earn your money.”

Norwich boss Thorup will hope that Ante Crnac and Ashley Barnes will step up in the absence of Sargent to help the team.
