Whistled for the first time by the Real Madrid faithful in the 4-0 defeat to arch-rivals FC Barcelona, Kylian Mbappé’s (25) start to his new club following his long-awaited departure from Paris Saint-Germain has fallen short of expectations despite scoring eight goals in 14 games across all competitions.
Mbappé was particularly criticised for his eight offsides during El Classico by members of the club’s fanbase who told L’Équipe “He’s not at all at the level we were hoping for.” However, according to a report by the French outlet, the Madrid hierarchy have not lost any faith in the summer signing and point to the opportunities that the Frenchman has been able to create during his short time in the Spanish capital.
L’Équipe explains that Madrid also emphasises that it is only October and that titles are decided in May. This support is also reflected by Mbappé’s manager Carlo Ancelotti who was keen to defend the forward following his performance in the defeat to Barcelona and believes that a turning point will soon come.
