The Blades trio were quick to show their support for this outgoing star.

Sheffield United’s season ended in crushing fashion last weekend, when they were defeated by Sunderland in the Championship play-off final.

Chris Wilder’s side had been in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League for the vast majority of the season, but were eventually cruelly consigned to another season of Championship football, thanks to Tom Watson’s stoppage-time winner for the Black Cats.

The Blades’ Wembley defeat could have ramifications for several members of the squad, who are unlikely to want to play another season of second tier football.

One man who will already be leaving Bramall Lane this summer is Hamza Choudhury, whose loan deal from Leicester City is due to expire imminently. The 27-year-old delivered a heartfelt message on Instagram after playing his final game for the club, which several of his teammates reacted to.

Although Choudhury was only at Bramall Lane for a short period, he quickly became an important member of Wilder’s team.

The Bangladesh international had fallen out of favour at his parent club, despite Leicester’s struggles at the foot of the Premier League table, but earned valuable gametime at United.

He failed to start in just two of the Blades’ final 12 league games, before featuring in every single minute of their ultimately unsuccessful play-off campaign. In the majority of those games, he operated on the right side of the defence and performed admirably away from his favoured role in the centre of midfield.

After United’s season came to a close under the Wembley arch, Choudhury delivered the following message via Instagram before he returns to his parent club.

He said: “Such a painful way to end the season. I’ve struggled to find the right words over the last couple of days. I feel like we deserved so much more, but it’s not what was written!

“I want to thank everyone associated with Sheffield United, the gaffer and his staff, all my teammates and every single fan for making my time so memorable here! I’ve loved being able to play and represent this special club! UTB.”

Choudhury’s Blades teammates were quick to respond with messages of support for the outgoing star.

Club captain Oli Arblaster, who was unable to feature during Choudhury’s time in Sheffield, said: “Good luck bro.”

Meanwhile, Tyrese Campbell, who had put United ahead in the early stages of the play-off final, said: “Family, was a pleasure brother.”

Sydie Peck also responded to Choudhury’s message, saying: “My brother.”

Choudhury is won't to be the last to leave Sheffield United this summer

With Sheffield United set to play their football in the second tier once again next season, Choudhury is unlikely to be the only player to depart Bramall Lane over the summer.

As is natural for sides who took part in the play-offs, the Blades are yet to release their retained list, but as well as players being released, several members of their squad are likely to attract glances from elsewhere.

Gustavo Hamer has already been linked with Premier League moves, while Anel Ahmedhodzic, who has just one year remaining on his current contract, may also fancy his chances of securing a move to return to the top flight.

Vinicius Souza is another Blades man who is expected to catch the eye of plenty of Premier League sides.

There are also concerns that Michael Cooper could draw interest from top flight sides, especially considering Illan Meslier's continued struggles for Leeds United.

United’s Wembley defeat will still be fairly raw at present, but its effects could also be felt long into next season and beyond.
