This season saw one of Manchester City’s most talented players make a slow start to the 24/25 season. Phil Foden was well below his best for the majority of the first half of the season. A busy summer with England at the European Championships had taken a toll on Foden. He then battled illness and fitness issues which saw him not reach the heights we have become accustomed to seeing from Foden.
But recently one of Manchester City’s most important players has begun to look like himself. That’s good news for the world champions as they look to claim a top-four finish this season. Foden scored a brace against Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium earlier this week. On top of that the energy and buzz we are used to seeing from Foden looks to have returned. The hope is now that Foden can continue his promising recent signs over the second half of this season.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Ipswich Town Pep Guardiola was asked about how Phil Foden has been travelling lately. Guardiola’s update was good news for Manchester City. Guardiola explained: “It’s not bad what he is doing lately. His mood when he smiles and he arrives and talks and whatever, we have to be calm. And in the first part of the year was a little bit more concerned, some niggles, some concerns about his condition, a little bit more down. Still, he’s a young player but already has experience in many things in many years. And sometimes you need to breathe, to come back and in this mood that has happened in the last three weeks, one month, his natural talent will do the rest.”
Manchester City need Phil Foden fit and firing over the second half of this season. At his best he is one of the best players in the Premier League. He does look to have turned a corner in regards to his form in recent weeks. After Pep Guardiola’s update today the hope is that Foden is now back to his best and can aid his team’s cause for the challenges that lie ahead this season.
