Southampton FC player ratings after a brave second half performance in the 3-2 defeat.

Once again, Southampton are defeated in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest took a mammoth 3-0 lead at halftime and another embarrassment seemed on the horizon.

A valiant second half fightback ensured that didn't happen. Jan Bednarek and Paul Onuachu scored a goal each but it was too late for the Saints.

That being said, let's take a look at how the Southampton players performed in this narrow 3-2 loss.

GK - Aaron Ramsdale: 3

Again, Ramsdale conceded twice at the near post. Later, fumbled the ball into the goal but it was given offside.

CB - Taylor Harwood-Bellis: 5

Passing was great but otherwise seemed ineffective in the defence.

CB - Jan Bednarek: 7

Slipped while receiving a pass on the second goal. Still, got on the scoresheet and nearly completed Southampton's comeback.

CB - James Bree: 4

Bree was the weak link in the Southampton defence. Also, his communication with Bednarek and Harwood-Bellis was one to forget.

LWB - Kyle Walker-Peters: 5

Failed to block Ola Aina's cross on the third goal. Still, a defensively improved performance as compared to the midweek game.

RWB - Yukinari Sugawara: 4

Dominated by Callum Hudson-Odoi on the right side. Started the season well but looks set to be replaced in the future.

CM - Flynn Downes: 4

A nightmare first half against Nottingham Forest. Bad decision making and an even bigger one from Anthony Taylor let Downes escape a straight red card.

CM - Joe Aribo: 7

Again put a heroic midfield performance in the Premier League. Tackles, recoveries, creating chances - Aribo did everything well.

CAM - Mateus Fernandes: 7

Gave a corner assist and came close to registering another in injury time. Finally, Southampton has found a set piece specialist after James Ward-Prowse.

ST - Adam Armstrong: 4

Struggled in front of Milenkovic and Murillo. His replacement Onuachu scored a goal and must be started over him.

ST - Cameron Archer: 5

Often had to help out the defensive unit. Safe to say, Archer was unable to replace Dibling on Sunday.
