Arne Slot’s table-toppers Liverpool will look to maintain their place at the summit when they visit last season’s runners-up Arsenal.

We’ve looked at all ten matches from gameweek nine and offered our predicted scores.

Leicester City vs Nottingham Forest

A match between two East Midlands clubs kicks off this latest round on Friday night. After a tough start following their promotion, the Foxes didn’t win any of their first six games (D3 L3). However, they have since won back-to-back games. They last won three successive Premier League matches in January 2021 under Brendan Rodgers.

On the other hand, Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in their last six away games in the Premier League (W4 D2), marking their longest run without an away defeat in the top flight since February-October 1995 (12 games). Under Nuno Espírito Santo, Forest have averaged 1.36 points per away match in the Premier League, compared to just 0.46 under previous head coach Steve Cooper, who is now in the Leicester dugout.

Aston Villa vs Bournemouth

This match is not just a showdown between two Basque coaches. It’s also a battle between the two teams that have benefited the most from goals and assists by substitutes in the Premier League this season: Aston Villa (four goals, two assists) and Bournemouth (three goals, three assists). Looking at the overall picture, Villa have picked up 17 points in eight Premier League games this season (W5 D2 L1), just the third time they’ve had that many points at this stage, also doing so in 1995-96 (17, finished 4th) and 1998-99 (20, finished 6th) while Bournemouth have lost six of their last nine away Premier League matches (W2 D1), losing their last two without scoring since their late 3-2 comeback victory against Everton at the end of August.

Brentford vs Ipswich

This will be the first top-flight meeting between Brentford and Ipswich Town. It will be the 1,452nd fixture played in England’s top flight and the 937th in the Premier League. There should be goals as only Wolves’ Premier League games have seen more (33) than Brentford’s this season (14 scored, 15 conceded). Meanwhile, no stadium has seen more goals than the Gtech Community Stadium (17).

Brighton vs Wolves

  • Saturday 26th October, 3pm
  • Preview: Brighton vs Wolves predictions and stats

Brighton will be looking to register three consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since September 2023. Additionally, they are seeking to win two games in a row without conceding a goal for the first time since April/May 2023. One of these victories was against Wolves, who have only earned one point in their last 11 Premier League matches. During this period, they’ve lost 10 games and conceded 33 goals, the highest among all teams in the league.

Man City vs Southampton

Manchester City are on their longest ever unbeaten run in the league, going 31 Premier League games without defeat since losing to Aston Villa last December (W25 D6). They’ve fallen behind 12 times across those games and come back to win 10 time (D2). City have gained 13 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season, more than any other side. Indeed, it is the most points a team has earned from losing positions in the opening eight matches of a Premier League season ever.

Everton vs Fulham

  • Preview: Everton vs Fulham predictions and stats

Everton are unbeaten in four games since losing their first four Premier League matches this season (W2 D2). Only once have the Toffees gone five unbeaten under Sean Dyche, doing so in April and May this year. Fulham, however, are unbeaten in their last five Premier League games against Everton (W3 D2), keeping four clean sheets in the process. All three wins in this run have come at Goodison Park.

Chelsea vs Newcastle

Chelsea’s last three Premier League defeats have come against last season’s top-three sides (0-5 vs Arsenal in April, 0-2 vs Man City in August, 1-2 vs Liverpool last weekend). The Blues are unbeaten in 19 games against all other teams (W13 D6), scoring 54 goals across these matches. After winning three of their first four Premier League games this season (D1), Newcastle failed to win their last four (D2 L2). The Magpies last went five matches without winning in the league in March 2023. That should change this weekend.

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham

Crystal Palace won five of their first seven home Premier League matches under Oliver Glasner (D1 L1), scoring 22 goals. Since then, they’re winless in four at Selhurst Park (D2 L2), failing to score in three. They’ll be facing a Spurs team gaining momentum: Ange Postecoglou’s men have won three of their last four Premier League matches (L1), as many as they had in their previous 11 games (W3 D1 L7).

Prediction: Tottenham to keep a clean sheet (5/2 with Bet365)

West Ham vs Man Utd

Two managers under pressure go head-to-head on Sunday. After the opening eight rounds, West Ham and Man United sit 15th and 12th in the Premier League table, respectively. The hosts will be without the suspended Mohammed Kudus for this match, who has netted in his last two league games. However, since joining the club ahead of the 2023-24 season, the Hammers haven’t lost any of the five Premier League matches in which the Ghanaian hasn’t featured (W2 D3).

Arsenal vs Liverpool

Artikelbild:Premier League predictions – gameweek 9: Will Arsenal end Arne Slot’s unbeaten away run?

This weekend’s marquee fixture. Arsenal recently lost to Bournemouth (0-2), putting them at risk of back-to-back Premier League losses for the first time since December 31, 2023 (0-2 against West Ham and 1-2 against Fulham). Before their match against the Cherries, Arsenal had only lost one of their first 25 league games in 2024 (won 21, drew 3). If Liverpool win this game, it will be their second-best start to a Premier League season after nine games, currently standing at 21 points out of a possible 27, having also won all their away fixtures. The only other time they achieved 24 or more points after nine games was in the 2019-20 season when they went on to win the title (25 points – won 8, drew 1).
