A match that could potentially be important in the race for Champions League takes place this weekend as RB Leipzig host Borussia Dortmund at Red Bull Arena.
Leipzig are in sixth place with 39 points after drawing 0-0 against Freiburg last week, whilst Dortmund currently sit in 10th place with 35 points following their 1-0 defeat against Augsburg.
Die Rotten Bullen’s draw against Freiburg was a reflection on how things have been going for them in the past few matches as they have now failed to score in four of their last eight matches.
Manager Marco Rose believes that his side can still provide a strong threat against tomorrow’s opponents.
“They’re a side with a lot of attacking power. Down the other end, they look susceptible at times. We have the quality to cause them problems.” said Rose.
“With our fans behind us, a good week of training and the training camp in Salzburg, which initiated the final phase a bit, we obviously want to win and add points to it.”
Leipzig are now are three points behind fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
Borussia Dortmund recovered well from their defeat in Augsburg by winning 2-1 against Lille in the Champions League in midweek, meaning they have now progressed into the quarter finals.
Whilst Leipzig have been inconsistent with goal scoring, Dortmund have scored at least two goals in seven of their last 11 Bundesliga matches.
Manager Niko Kovac discussed the challenge that his side will face on Saturday.
“Leipzig didn’t play in mid-week so the freshness will certainly be there. We will be challenged from the very first minute, but it must also be up to us to challenge our opponents on the ball and off the ball,” said Kovac.
In the previous meeting between these sides, Dortmund came out on top by winning 2-1, with Max Beier and Serhou Guirassy scoring the goals to complete the comeback after Benjamin Sesko opened the scoring in the 27th minute.
