It was made clear that the Hoops would be looking for a new boss to take the reins this summer, after Marti Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave prior to the final game of the season.

QPR will be looking for a manager who can return them to promotion contention, with the club failing to record a top-half finish in the Championship since the 2021/22 campaign.

Indeed, the Hoops are yet to make a play-off appearance since the club's relegation from the Premier League in 2015, with their ninth-placed finish in 2020/21 being their highest placing in the second tier since top flight relegation.

Football League World takes a look at all the latest news surrounding who might become the next QPR manager.

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson emerges as potential QPR candidate

According to a recent report from journalist Alan Nixon reporting via Patreon, St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson is being watched by QPR as a potential candidate to take over at Loftus Road.

Nixon claims that Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town are both also showing interest in the 50-year-old, as a potential battle for his services could be set to take place.

Robinson, who has been in charge of St Mirren since February 2022, signed a contract extension with the Buddies in October 2024, which means his current contract with the Scottish Premiership side is set to expire in the summer of 2027.

The former Oldham and Morecambe boss guided St Mirren to a fifth-placed finish in the Scottish top flight in the 2023/24 season, which saw the club end a 37-year wait for European football, as they qualified for the UEFA Conference League.

One coach who won't become QPR's next permanent manager is current R's assistant, Kevin Betsy.

The 47-year-old, alongside Xavi Calm, took charge of the R's final game of the season, a 1-0 away win over fourth-placed Sunderland.

Naturally, questions were raised over the possibility of the former England and Arsenal youth manager taking on the manager's job on a full-time basis, but in a recent interview with West London Sport, he quickly shot that down.

"No. I’m very clear; the club recruited me for a specific role," he said.

"My role has been first-team coach, working 80% with individual players to improve – I’ve got a real expertise, I would say, in helping individuals develop – and hopefully I’ll be going back to that role. That’s very clear."

Pierre Sage has been out of work since January, after being sacked as Lyon head coach.

The 46-year-old Frenchman was in charge of the club since November 2023, and guided them to a sixth-placed finish in Ligue 1 in the 2023/24 season.

Sage has remained one of the favourites among bookmakers to become the new QPR boss since news of Cifuentes being placed on gardening leave broke, and in a recent interview with The Athletic, he has revealed an interest in Championship management.

"I’m now ready for a new project," he said. "I want to begin next season either in France or elsewhere in Europe, ideally in the big five (leagues).

"My dream is to work in England because I think it’s the best country and the best league. The Championship is a good league too."

There are a host of other names that bookies are touting as leading candidates for the QPR job.

Tom Cleverley, as described by LondonWorld, is a 'frontrunner' for the R's job, after being sacked by Watford after guiding the Hornets to a 14th-placed finish in the Championship this season.

Ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O'Neil and Spurs coach Ryan Mason have also been linked with the QPR job in recent days too.

Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens and former Plymouth Argyle boss Wayne Rooney have also been touted by bookmakers as being among the leading crop of candidates too.
