RB Leipzig star Xaver Schlager suffers fresh setback | OneFootball

RB Leipzig confirmed today that Xaver Schlager will be sidelined until March, suffering a fresh injury setback. The Austrian midfielder underwent minor surgery on his knee this week due to ongoing comfort, pushing the 27-year-old’s return back by around six weeks.

Schlager suffered an ACL injury against Hoffenheim in May 2024 and returned towards the end of the year but injured his left knee against FK Banik Most-Sous on January 6. According to kicker, a follow-up examination found that fluid had formed on the player’s injured knee, which is why Schlager had to undergo minor surgery.

RB Leipzig did confirm that Schlager would start running again in the next few weeks, but that he will also be sidelined for Austria’s playoff game against Serbia on March 20 and 23. After that, the player should be available to Marco Rose once again.

Schlager has managed just 200 minutes across five games in all competitions this season.
