Spanish news outlet Fichajes has reported that Real Madrid won’t be looking to sign William Saliba from Arsenal in the upcoming summer transfer window. They have been interested in the French defender in the last few transfer windows but have now decided not to pursue the defender in the upcoming summer as they feel he would be very costly.
Saliba has grown to become one of the best centre-backs in the world due to his stand-out performances for Arsenal. His impressive performances have attracted the attention of multiple elite clubs, and even the Gunners are aware of the fact that their star centre-back might leave the club if they don’t start winning major trophies.
Real Madrid are the greatest club in the world and are a dream for any player. So, definitely, they would not have much problem luring Saliba. However, they are aware of the fact that a summer move for one of the best defenders in the world will cost them huge, and hence they want to continue with their existing defenders.
Saliba has conceded 16 goals and kept 10 clean sheets in 25 matches in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. That means when Saliba is on the pitch, his team concedes a goal every 137 minutes. Moreover, he’s made 1.80 tackles and 0.64 interceptions for every 90 minutes he was on the pitch. Saliba is also racking up about 2.96 clearances at the same time.

He embodies exceptional traits that define a world-class defender. Saliba complements his tackling prowess and composure. His calmness under pressure displays his maturity beyond his 23 years. His technical ability to play out from the back, paired with a market value of €80 million in 2025, highlights his elite status. Moreover, he is a leader at the back and hence could have been a world-class signing for the reigning La Liga champions.
Los Blancos have suffered at the back this season. Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are certainly at the wrong end of their 30s and have suffered injuries as well. Getting a player of the quality of Saliba at just 23 years old could have solved their issues at the back. Moreover, Madrid do have the amount to go big for him.
