2024 has been a special year for Real Madrid megastar Vinicius Jr. as he firmly cemented his status as one of the best footballers in the world currently.

This was reflected in the fact that he won FIFA The Best Men’s Player of the Year award and the Globe Soccer Award for the Best Player of 2024, while finishing narrowly behind Rodri in the Ballon d’Or rankings.

Prizes lead to improved wages

Now, according to AS, Vinicius’ rise as one of the best players in the world has now been matched by his rise as the highest-paid player at Real Madrid.

Indeed, his victory in the The Best award has significantly boosted his salary, surpassing even Kylian Mbappe in terms of earnings at the club.

The Brazilian winger, who was named the best footballer of the planet by FIFA in Qatar, has seen a major salary increase thanks to the award, bringing him closer to €20 million net for the final two seasons of his current contract.

Vinicius’ contract renewal in 2022, which runs until 2027, was structured progressively, with the 24-year-old initially set to earn €75 million net over the duration of the deal – an average of €15 million per season.

However, following his win at FIFA The Best Awards, Vinicius will earn €20 million net per season for the final two years of his current contract.

Moreover, if the Brazilian goes on to win another The Best Award or the Ballon d’Or, or even finishes in the top three for either honour, his salary will rise again. This outcome seems quite possible if he continues at his current level of performance.

And, as reported last week, Real Madrid intend to open negotiations over a new contract with Vinicius, especially with Saudi Arabia sniffing around, which would mean an even higher salary is on the cards for the 24-year-old.
