However, on the flip side, there is indeed a lot stake as a potential two-goal margin victory for Manchester City could see Real Madrid get eliminated before the Round of 16 stage of the UCL for the first time in quite a while.

Therefore, Real Madrid are quite naturally buzzed for tonight’s encounter, with the team determined to secure a berth in the next round.

To that end, a recent report from AS has pointed out that there is a clear message going on around the Real Madrid camp heading into this tie: “Now Real Madrid’s season is about to begin”.

This can be perceived as a clear statement of intent from Real Madrid, who have endured a difficult season so far.

The Spanish champions have been betrayed time and time again by referees throughout the campaign and are currently on a three-game winless run in La Liga.

Real Madrid also failed to finish inside the top eight of the UCL league stage. In contrast, their arch-rivals Barcelona finished second and are currently leading the league table.

Real Madrid, therefore, are determined to turn their season around and the club believe it will start with a win over Man City at the Bernabeu tonight.
