Republic of Ireland went down 4-0 to Slovenia in their first 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League Group B2 away fixture.
Slovenia took a third-minute lead when Lara Prasnikar was sent clear down the middle and goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan could only help her shot into the top corner.
Carla Ward’s side nearly had a quick response but Denise O’Sullivan’s strike was turned round the post by Zala Mersnik.
Ireland fell further behind before the half-hour mark, Prasnikar again on target with a volley off Kaja Korosec’s corner.
It was a long way back for the Irish as the hosts struck a third time six minutes later, Zara Kramžar firing back across the goal and inside the far post.
Brosnan prevented a fourth before half time, saving as Maja Sternard looked set to score.
The visitors had their best spell after the interval but O’Sullivan was denied again by the keeper, who also pushed away a Katie McCabe effort.
Nina Kajzba rifled in a fourth from the edge of the box in the latter stages, O’Sullivan then clipping the crossbar.
